Zachariah T. Benn was born October 15, 1858, in Ontario, Canada. He was the son on Hester “Hettie” Haley and Edward Benn.

Zack opened the Delmonico Oyster House in January of 1903, located between 3rd and 4th on Commercial Ave, in Anacortes. In 1904 he sold the business to C.C. Clark. The Anacortes American from June of 1904 stated that he sold the business and will probably go to St. Louis to open a restaurant at the Louisiana Purchase Expo. He later returned to Anacortes in 1905 to open the Golden West Café, located on 5th Ave between Commercial and O Ave.
