E.J. and Ann Kidder, Anacortes.

Ernest John “Jack” Kidder was born July 15, 1902 in Marysville, Washington. He was the son of Cecelia G. Spithill and William Myron Kidder. He received his school in both Marysville and Anacortes.

Jack served in bother World War I and World War II in the U.S. Navy. In 1918, he was the featherweight boxing champ of the Atlantic and Pacific fleets.

He spent 60 years as a commercial fisherman and during the last years of his life he owned and operated Kidder Insulation Co.

E. J. Kidder married Anna (Ann) Stankus in 1922. They had three sons and one daughter: John, Gordon, Mike, and Susan.

He also served as grand knight in the Knights of Columbus, an usher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a member of Anacortes Eagle’s, the shingleweavers’, fisherman’s unions, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Snohomish Indian tribe (his great-grandfather signed the Point Elliot Treaty).

Jack passed away on April 19, 1982 in Anacortes, Washington and is interred at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes, Washington.

Ann Marcella Kidder was born August 25, 1906 in Anacortes, Washington as Ann Marcella Stankus. She was the daughter of Lucy Anna Entus and Antone Stankus.

Ann was an active gardener and started the Hillcrest Garden Nursery. She was also a member of the Southside Garden Club and had received a trophy for the most blue ribbons for her flower arrangements. During World War II, she baked pies for the soldier’s canteen and was active in the Red Cross.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Guild. At the time of her death, she was the last living charter member of the Anacortes Eagles Auxiliary, that formed in 1927, and was active in the Ladies Auxiliary for 72 years.

Ann married E. J. “Jack” Kidder in 1922 and they had three sons and one daughter: Michael, John “Jack”, Gordon, and Susan.

Ann passed away on February 26, 1999 in Anacortes, Washington and is interred at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes, Washington.
